Opportunity to contribute feedback on forthcoming book: Thinking through Digital Media

Thinking through Digital Media: Transnational Environments and Locative Places
Patricia R. Zimmermann (Ithaca College) and Dale Hudson (NYU Abu Dhabi)

Thinking through Digital Media charts the intersections between histories and theories for conventional forms of documentary and experimental practices developed from analogue media and one for current digital forms, particularly ones that run across distributed networks like the Internet or partly transcend screens altogether as locative media. New media domains for documentary and experimental practice are increasingly based on explorations of code and user interface, interrogations and applications of archives and databases, automated recombinatory techniques, and provocative performance.

See details on the peer review trial for this book here.  The deadline to participate is March 7, 2014.

We invite you to join Doug Blandy for a luncheon presentation on his research into international arts engagement through the ChinaVine project.  ChinaVine seeks to build partnerships through the documentation of contemporary and traditional Chinese cultural heritage.  ChinaVine’s mission is to educate English-speaking children, youth, and adults about China’s cultural heritage. This mission is achieved through the use of an interactive website along with a variety of social media platforms.

The research presentation begins with an overview of ChinaVine covering the interactive website, Creative Commons licensing, communication and outreach via social media, and examples of published work. These work samples include results of recent expeditions, such as the May 2012 trip to Dali in Yunnan province, P.R.
