Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track at Boston University

The Boston University College of Communication invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Emerging Media Studies with an appointment in the Department of Film & Television. This position is on social aspects of new media with expertise in empirical approaches to related topics such as virtual reality, augmented reality, digital games, new distribution channels (including mobiles and online streaming), and novel business models. Familiarity with statistics is expected sufficient to teach and guide interested graduate students.  This position is unique in that the successful candidate will be able to teach students working with social scientific theories and methodologies as well as those trained in humanistic approaches common to the field of Film and Television Studies. Therefore, candidates should be able to make their area(s) of expertise relatable to students of film, television, and emerging media.

The College of Communication is home to interdisciplinary research engaged with both quantitative and qualitative methods. The Division of Emerging Media Studies interacts with the three departments within the College: Film & Television, Journalism, and Mass Communication/Advertising/Public Relations. The candidate hired for this position will be appointed in the Department of Film & Television and will teach mainly in the cross-cutting Division of Emerging Media Studies. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies or a related field, experience teaching at the university level, and a record of scholarly publications or a demonstrated potential to achieve such a record. Advanced ABDs will also be considered. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in media and communication theory and in the area of specialization; supervising master’s theses and doctoral dissertations; and broadening the research profile of the Division of Emerging Media Studies and the Department of Film & Television.

Assistant Professor at Emporia State University

Emporia State University’s Department of Communication and Theatre invites applications for a tenure-track nine month, Assistant Professor position to begin August, 2018. Ph.D. preferred; ABD considered.

The department offers an undergraduate major in communication and seeks applicants with an interest in teaching upper-level courses primarily in Social Media/Digital Communication. Additional teaching interests may include, but not be limited to, Leadership and Group Communication. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach the Public Speaking course. The normal teaching load for this position is twelve hours per semester, and other relevant duties including advising and maintaining appropriate levels of research and service activity. Excellent teaching skills are required.

Assistant Professor of Multimedia Arts Technology – Western Michigan University

Duties:
-Teach courses in the Multimedia Arts Technology-Music (MAT) Program, including courses involving creating audio for video and video editing, upper-level special topics courses, and overseeing year-long Capstone Projects.
-Coordinate the MAT program, including managing of technology in workspaces, planning budgets to acquire new/replacement technology, and overseeing graduate students.
-Engage in service to the School, College, and University; and in recruitment activities.
-Collaborate with other faculty.
-Other teaching and non-teaching assignments determined by departmental needs and applicant qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
-MM or MFA in Multimedia Arts Technology or related field, such as Music Technology, Sound Art, or a degree focused on digital media.
-Knowledge of and experience working with both audio and video software and hardware.
-Previous teaching experience.
-Demonstrated record of professional activities and research involving digital media, including non-academic projects such as sound design, music for video games or other media, video projects, computer programming work, designing electronics, live sound reinforcement and event management, and/or presentations of your research or creative work at academic conferences.
-Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative arts.

Desired Qualifications:
-PhD or DMA in Multimedia Arts Technology or related field, such as Music Technology, a degree focused on digital media, or a degree involving creative work with digital media.
-Previous teaching experience at the collegiate level as the instructor of record.
-A broad knowledge of multimedia arts technology in order to facilitate and assist with diverse Capstone Projects.
-Skills, experience, or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
—Generating audio for visual media, including MIDI Orchestration and sound design
—Live sound reinforcement
—Audio engineering
—Computer programming related to the arts
—Electrical engineering related to audio and visual projects

Research or client-based work in one or more of the following:
—Generating and editing audio for video projects
—Generating and editing video for audiovisual projects
—Live sound reinforcement and event production
—Building electronics for audio and/or video projects
—Computer programming for audio and/or video projects

Sculpture / 3-D Design – Cal State, Fullerton

The Department of Visual Arts in the College of the Arts at California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position in Sculpture as part of the Three-Dimensional Media areas with appointment starting in Fall 2018.  CSUF values and is dedicated to the goal of building a diverse University community.  We strongly encourage applications from candidates who can demonstrate through their teaching, research, and service that they can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our community.

Position

The candidate for this position must be qualified to teach all levels in BA, BFA, MA and MFA courses in Sculpture / 3-D Design including traditions such as wood/metal/plastic fabrication, mold making, metal casting, welding, kinetics, and digital processes.  Candidates must have a keen interest in teaching sculpture including an understanding of interdisciplinary approaches to sculpture and be engaged with critical issues related to the discipline.  The candidate will guide and develop the sculpture degree program, teach 3-courses each semester, and participate in advising and mentoring students.  Faculty members are responsible for creative activity and/or scholarly research recognized by peer review, professional activity (currency in the field), and service to the department, college, university, and community.

Required Qualifications

  • MFA degree in Sculpture or closely related field.
  • Evidence of contemporary artistic practice and demonstrated record of creative achievement with a substantive national or international exhibition record.
  • Evidence of effective teaching with pedagogy informed by a broad knowledge of sculpture’s traditions and proficiency with a variety of sculpture materials and methods.
  • Demonstrated skills of sculpture traditions such as wood/metal/plastic fabrication, mold making, metal casting, welding, kinetics and digital processes; and a proven ability to teach all levels of technical and conceptual approaches to studio practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and actively developing programs and curricula to maintain the Sculpture program’s presence at a national level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice with the safe operation and maintenance of a fully equipped Sculpture facility and foundry.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of culturally diverse students, faculty, and staff and ability to collaborate as a member of a team.

Rank and Salary

The position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The CSUF Art Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and is located about 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles in metropolitan Orange County. The Art Department counts approximately 1,500 undergraduate art majors, 60 graduate students, 31 full-time faculty, and 60 part-time instructors. AltAc staff position – UT Dallas

The School of Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication (ATEC) is the newest school at the University of Texas at Dallas.  Created in 2015, ATEC offers multidisciplinary programs in emerging media arts, animation & games, critical media studies, and design & technology.  Faculty include artists, designers, scientists, scholars, and reflective practitioners, who collaborate on the production of new knowledge that takes different forms:  papers, books, funded research, installations, exhibits, animations, and games.

The Research Coordinator provides logistical support for activities such as lecture series, symposia, exhibitions, workshops, studio visits, and lab open houses.  Additional responsibilities include maintaining databases of research opportunities, journal / conference submission calendar, and external events such as festivals, exhibitions, or lectures.

We seek candidates with the Ph.D. or advanced doctoral training in digital humanities, creative computation, or emerging media design.  Candidates should have experience working in a research environments such as a lab or studio.  Key skills required:  project management, media content development, digital communication design, creative problem-solving.

Research Data SpecialistKelvin Smith Library, Case Western Reserve University

Position Description:  Working independently and with initiative, the Research Data Specialist position is a non-supervisory position that reports to the Digital Learning and Scholarship team leader. The RDS will provide leadership and expertise in the areas of quantitative and qualitative data analysis, geospatial data visualization, working in collaboration with campus-wide initiatives around research data management, providing guidance and creating best practices for ethical data creation, cultural analysis and dissemination.  

The RDS will be creatively engaged with faculty and students involved in digital scholarship, supporting and serving as a resource to campus members developing digital projects and publications, including those with data visualization or GIS components. This individual is expected to establish partnerships with faculty throughout the University in order to (1) identify emerging research or instructional needs; (2) create competencies around data literacy and use, such as standards around informed consent or ethics of web scraping secondary data; (3) maintain awareness of federal agency requirements regarding data management, including funding requirements for data integrity and access; (4) assess usage and impact.

Qualifications Required: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
