Head of Digital Scholarship Services at NYU

New York University seeks a Head of Digital Scholarship Services (full-time, tenure-track) to manage, envision, and expand a suite of innovative and sustainable digital scholarship services in support of faculty and student needs. Job Duties:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-2 years supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional technology skills, knowledge of current digital scholarship trends, and ability to evaluate and apply new technologies.
  • Expertise with common web publishing tools (e.g. Omeka, WordPress), and demonstrated experience with state-of-the-art research methods in digital scholarship.
  • Progressively increased responsibility in planning, managing, and delivering complex digital humanities and digital scholarship projects in an academic setting.
  • Experience providing consultation as well as teaching or leading workshops on digital scholarship tools and/or methods to faculty and students.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and engage an active intellectual community, including working collaboratively and building partnerships across disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of stakeholders, including faculty, students, and staff in a team environment.
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with state-of-the-art research methods, including quantitative, qualitative, or geospatial methods is highly desirable.
  • Experience with programming languages, such as Ruby or Python and ability to deploy code in web contexts, such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, or similar.

Digital Projects Librarian, College of Charleston

The College of Charleston seeks a Digital Projects Librarian to serve as Project Coordinator to the Lowcountry Digital Library (LCDL) and the Lowcountry Digital History Initiative (LDHI). This is a tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Digital Services Coordinator and is a member of the Collection and Content Services team.

 

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • work with other librarians, faculty members, LCDL and LDHI partners, scholars, and contributors to digitize collections and create digital exhibits that support research about the Lowcountry region of South Carolina and historically interconnected sites in the Atlantic World
  • keep abreast of trends in the creation, maintenance, and migration of digital collections and exhibits, and will make recommendations to improve procedures and access
  • work to assess complex digital project requirements and provide quality technical solutions to the Library, College, and regional partners
  • work with the Directors of the Lowcountry Digital Library and the Lowcountry Digital History Initiative to continue to create and manage the creation of digital content that fits within the scope of these projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • advanced degree in library science or a relevant humanities field (such as history, public history, or museum studies). MLS/MLIS or equivalent, from an ALA accredited program, strongly preferred
  • knowledge of emerging technology trends related to digitization, metadata creation, and digital preservation
  • knowledge of non-MARC metadata standards and controlled vocabularies (LCSH, AAT, etc.)

Archives and Information Sciences – Position #27041
This is a non-tenure position. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to impactful research as well as to teach at the graduate and undergraduate level. We are particularly interested in someone who is comfortable with our department’s growing focus on data stewardship and digital curation.   • Digital curation, preservation, and stewardship, including data archives, research data management, and innovative methods for long-term information stewardship

Data Stewardship – Position #134534
This is a non-tenure stream position. The initial appointment is expected to be three years. Anticipated start date is August 1, 2017. We are looking for an experienced practitioner and scholar in Data Stewardship who can demonstrate an in-depth understanding of data curation, data documentation and data preservation, specifically:

  • Current best practices and policy surrounding active data management through the data lifecycle, including data collection, data management plans, data storage, data quality and reproducibility
  • Experience of handling research data including application of data standards and formats, data description and documentation, metadata schema for disciplinary data, data citation and persistent identifiers, data publication, data analysis, data visualization, data re-use and metrics
  • Contemporary good practice in data selection and appraisal, data infrastructure including data repository software platforms, and long-term data preservation strategies
  • An awareness of diverse disciplinary data practices, research workflows and workflow platforms, as well as an in-depth knowledge of particular domain(s).
  • The successful candidates will be expected to possess strong experience within the broader data community or in professional data curation environments and to have excellent interpersonal, communication and team skills.

Yale Digital Humanities Lab Postdoctoral Positions

The Digital Humanities Lab (DHLab) at Yale University Library invites applications for three 12-month Postdoctoral Associate positions for the 2017-2018 academic year. Seeking energetic and creative applicants who demonstrate innovative thinking and a proactive approach to the questions that digital humanities methods, approaches, tools, and theories raise in their academic disciplines. The focus of these positions is on a research project defined by the applicant. Scholars with a background in any humanities discipline are eligible to apply; the committee especially encourages applicants with a research focus in: Visual Culture, Art, and/or History of Art, Twentieth-Century European History and Literature, and/or Jewish Studies.

Each Postdoctoral Associate will have a dedicated workspace in the DHLab in Sterling
Memorial Library; the opportunity to collaborate with technical staff, including a DH
Developer and UX Designer; and a budget for computing equipment, professional
development, and relocation expenses. The Postdoctoral Associate’s primary responsibility will be to his or her own research project. We also expect candidates will be active participants in the intellectual life of the DHLab.

Media Postdoctoral Fellowship at McGill University

Media@McGill is a hub of interdisciplinary research, scholarship and public outreach on issues in media, technology and culture, located in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Postdoctoral fellowships are awarded to scholars from the humanities and social sciences, working on any historical period. The 2017-2018 fellowship is dedicated to the theme of “Migrant Media.”

Fellows are expected to take an active role in the research activities and academic life of Media@McGill (participation in conferences, seminars, etc.). They may also have the
possibility of teaching a course within the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill.

Eligibility:

  • Doctoral Degree from a university other than McGill no earlier than June 1,
    2013 and no later than May 1, 2017. International candidates welcome

Andrew W. Mellon Digital Humanities Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at USC

The University of Southern California Digital Humanities Program seeks applications for a two-year Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. The program aims to provide training for scholars from a wide range of humanities disciplines in emerging digital technologies, including digital publication of scholarly research, while still preserving the essential integrity of the humanities as an intellectual field of inquiry.

Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in activities in various Cinematic Arts research labs, and they will gain in-depth knowledge of the Alliance for Networking Visual Culture and Scalar. Fellows will be affiliated with one of the humanities centers or institutes at USC, including, but not limited to the Shoah Foundation Institute, the Visual Studies Research Institute, the USC-Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute, the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West, the Brain and Creativity Institute, and the USC Shinso Ito Center for Japanese Religions and Cultures.

Fellows will have the opportunity to present their work in panels at the annual public symposia on how their immersion in digital humanities techniques has shaped their research, writing, and presentation of evidence. Each fellow will teach three courses over two academic years.

Assistant Professor in Public and Digital History

The History Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is seeking to make a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with primary fields in Public and Digital History. Applicants must have a clear research agenda demonstrated by publications, public scholarship, and/or digital products, as well as promise of excellence in teaching. Teaching responsibilities will include courses at the graduate level in public history and digital history, and may also include museum studies, local history, oral history, and courses in the candidate’s secondary field of interest. We expect the new appointee to play a leading role in the department’s large and long-standing MA in Public History, contribute to the department’s PhD program, help shape the department’s growing digital presence, and link with other digital humanities scholars across campus.

International Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Media Studies

Brown University invites applications for a two-year International Postdoctoral Fellowship in Modern Culture and Media, with a specialization in Global Media Studies. This position is to be held jointly at the Cogut Center for the Humanities and the Department of Modern Culture and Media, effective July 1, 2017. The department emphasizes the theoretically informed analysis of film, television, video, new media, photography, sound technologies, and print in the context of modern and contemporary cultures.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2017 (must have been awarded by an institution other than Brown University within the past five years)
  • research should critically engage the technological and theoretical transformations and media flows that are rapidly re-situating all forms of media and social practices
  • scholars challenging older conceptions of national culture, region, canons, and/or tradition are especially preferred.

Possible research interests include:

  • the productions and receptions of one or more non-Western or Global South media practices, texts, and/or audiences
  • the translations and transformations of globally popular genres
  • media ecologies, economics, and geopolitics in an era of increasing transnational media trade
