In addition to approving blogs, QA the product and Tweet about interesting blogs and trends to help build the social presence of ACI Scholarly Blog Index on the web.

The ACI Scholarly Blog Index is a collection of editorially created abstracts and full-text of scholarly and authoritative blog articles from experts in all fields of science, social sciences, and the humanities. The Index is published by the ACI Information Group, LLC, the leading provider of full-text authoritative content (news, blogs, Twitter tweets, videos, etc.) for syndication to the academic, financial, corporate, and government markets.”

This is a virtual, paid hourly position, approximately 20- 30-hour/week, performing research and approving the work of a team of researchers. The position is ideal for librarians with academic library, scholarly press, or library vendor experience.

Responsibilities –

  • Approving the blogs selected by the research team
  • Determining subject coverage and reviewing Library of Congress Classifications for accuracy
  • Enforcing editorial and product guidelines ensuring data quality
  • QA the product on occasion and Tweet about blogs and trends
  • Review and approve scholarly blogs and metadata, including LC Class and the author’s social connections, for inclusion in the ACI Scholarly Blog Index.
  • Review and approve the work of a virtual team of web researchers, many of whom are librarians and subject matter experts, as they select scholarly blogs and add metadata as described above. Correct incomplete entries and periodically update blog selections.
  • Determine subject coverage by LC Classification and focus researchers on growing fields of science, the humanities, and the social sciences. Reassign subject areas for the researchers when they exhaust a topic.
  • Adhere to and enforce editorial and product policies ensuring editorial policies are being followed and content quality is maintained. Knowledge of database operations.
  • QA the product and assist the technical team in testing new features and functionality developed for the ACI Scholarly Blog Index.
  • Tweet about new blogs and trends identified during the research process and help build ACI’s social media presence on the web.

Requirements:

  • Strong academic background, editorial expertise, social media experience.
  • Subject expertise and demonstrated understanding of the academic market and the professional motivations and concerns of faculty and authors in academia.
  • Strong editorial skills; knowledgeable about assigning subject categories and Library of Congress Classifications to scholarly blogs.
  • Social media savvy–Tweet, blog, comment.
  • Library degree from an ALA-accredited library school is a plus.
  • Experience working on virtual teams is a plus.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Digital Solitude Fellowship

“As part of the Digital Solitude program, each year Akademie Schloss Solitude will be awarding a total of 24 months of fellowships to two to four people in 2016 and 2017. The fellowship program is intended for journalists, developers/coders, designers, as well as artists and all other creatives and professionals who work on the development of new digital content and formats. There is a special focus on digital projects in journalism, storytelling, art and cultural mediation, and media art.

Fellowship: Benefits

The fellowship includes a grant of 1,150 Euros a month (plus a one-time grant for travel costs for the journey to and from Stuttgart from the fellow’s primary place of residence) and a combined apartment/studio, where electricity, water, and heating will be provided free of charge.

Application

The application period for fellowships in 2017 starts on May 1 and runs until June 30, 2016. The jurors base their decisions on the qualitative aspects of work samples submitted by the applicants. etcThe Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at Carnegie Mellon University invites game design professionals to apply for a new full-time, non-tenure teaching track professor position at the ETC in Redwood Shores, CA.

Ideal candidates for this position have a passion for exploring the full potential of interactive media, have an active interest in game design as it is applied on small and large teams, have a high level of expertise developing experiences from playable prototype to polished completion, and have teaching, research and professional experience in this area. Both industry and independent game development will be highly valued in the review of candidates, along with a portfolio of games designed (including digital, tabletop, big games, etc.). Experience in creative direction or user experience design, or both, is a plus. Familiarity with gameplay programming is a bonus. While preferred, an advanced degree is not required for candidates with extensive professional experience in game design.

The Digital Scholarship Specialist will work with faculty, students, and staff in the exploration, implementation, and assessment of multimodal digital scholarship. Key to the position will be exploration into existing and new technologies to support scholarly inquiry across academic disciplines and at all levels from undergraduates to graduate students to faculty. Based in the Library Research and Instructional Services Department, the Digital Scholarship Specialist will provide vision and leadership toward the creation of a suite of consultation services by coordinating the expertise of LITS staff members, in particular in Research & Instructional Services, Special Collections, Educational Technology Services, and Web Services. The successful candidate will also work closely with colleagues at Haverford and Swarthmore Colleges (the Tri-College community). In addition to the virtual digital scholarship center created through this coordination, the position also offers the opportunity to shape a physical service center in support of digital scholarship from the new Digital Media and Collaboration Lab in Carpenter Library.
